Little Inky Black Things

[Arianna Westerfield: Illustrator, Graphic Designer, Ringling College Art Student]

  • So I’m doing thumbnails for my next project…

…and realize that this is the third project within the last month where I’m dealing with humanoids with more than two arms.

Zbrush, I sculpted a four-armed warrior character (and then found out about Asura’s Wrath from Morbi and dammit I should have changed it to Asura that would have been so much cooler), Advanced Media I painted a four-armed merchant of the same species as the Zbrush dude, arguing with a customer (which was also a throwback to a painting I did freshman year that, while there were some anatomical problems, I’m still relatively happy with); and now for illustration I’m creating 2-3 children’s book illustrations depicting Hindu deities.

Ganesha’s been depicted with 4-6+ arms, Vishnu [as himself] typically has 4, Kali’s been seen with anywhere from 4-10+ arms depending on which form you’re looking at (not to mention 10 heads, on occasion), and Shiva seems to typically have 4 as well, from what I’ve cross referenced from a couple of books and paintings.  At least I’m not drawing Ravana (HEY LET’S FIT 10 HEADS AND TONS OF ARMS ON ONE BODY WHOOOO).

WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME AND MY NEED TO DRAW PEOPLE WITH EXCESSIVE LIMBS?!
